The Tyloma Series

The Tyloma Series is a new YouTube series focusing on telling fictional stories of mysteries, tragedies, and oddities. Presented in a manner similar to true crime, and viewed through the lens of a retro video game, I intend the series to be both reliably cozy and grippingly unsettling in equal doses.

The Tyloma Series trailer is out!

The Vibe

The Tyloma series is focused primarily on the styles and aesthetics of the past, using 3D graphics similar to those common to the PlayStation 1, narration inspired by Twilight Zone and Unsolved Mysteries, and a flow structured like actual video games. Each episode will take one or more particular approaches to telling its story based upon the story's subject matter. It could be an over-the-shoulder exploration game, a first-person puzzle, an isometric outside perspective, or even a driving game. Nearly every type of gameplay is on the table for any episode to use. As for the content itself, these videos will be paced slowly, taking their time to let viewers enjoy the visuals and atmosphere, as well as connect dots themselves from the puzzle pieces presented.

The Stories

Based primarily in the realm of mystery and horror, the episodes will showcase stories of a wide range, delving into unsolved disappearances, new cryptids, and cosmic threats pulling subjects into their own little mazes. Characters will be presented as realistic people, with no character existing solely for the sake of being killed off. Many of the episodes will deal with deeper themes and symbolism, affording an enhanced depth to the tales playing out. Slow-building tension and existential weight will be prioritized over jumpscares and wanton gore. There will be blood, tragedy, and shock, but not for the sake thereof.

The Order

This will be an anthology series, with no single linear order. Dates will jump around, even covering many years in a single episode on occasion, depending on the nature of the story. Some stories will even take place in the future, or in timelines different from our own (albeit ont exactly separate, per se, but we'll cross that bridge in the future). So there's no need to watch the episodes in order, any one can be viewed at any time without needing background information.

The Settings

Finally, the best part. As you may have seen from the trailer video, I have a special fondness for creating strange or liminal environments. Often my favorite part of most video games, the environments will get heavy focus across this series. Characters navigating areas will be given the proper amount of time to traverse them, with much attention given to detail and atmosphere, to ensure that these settings are as captivating, enjoyable, and intriguing as can be. With the episodes set in various times and locations, environments will range from devastated mountain paths, to sprawling midieval labyrinthian castles, to a Cold War-era oil drilling station. Some of these settings even come from my own dreams, as navigating liminal spaces is my most common dream type. As such, literally almost any worldly or otherworldly environment can feature in an episode, or entirely define it. And all presented in their retro low-poly glory.

The Future

So, I hope this all sounds interesting and enjoyable to you. As of current, this series is a hobby I'm undertaking in my free time, but with enough support, I'll be able to put more focus on it. So if you like what's being presented, and want to see more, then please show it! Do the usual liking and whatnot on the episode videos, and if you're really interested, please consider becoming a Patron, where you can see additional content and get other perks.

Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you enjoy!
